An Intimate Mothers Day Celebration with Jagged Edge, Dru Hill, Shai & Case
Hearing Jagged Edge and Dru Hill perform live was probably the best way for me to start off my May. I received tickets to a concert to see Jagged Edge, Dru Hill, Shai & Case perform. It’s a bit complicated to explain in words how all of this happened, but it’s easier if I just show you here.
Before the Concert
According to Wikipedia, Murphy’s law is an adage or epigram that is typically stated as: “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.” In some formulations, it is extended to “Anything that can go wrong will go wrong, and at the worst possible time.” I experienced this throughout the entire day.
I wanted to start my day early so I could be comfortable and ready without having to rush. I woke up at 7:00 a.m. and started a few of my errands for the day. I was still yawning, but I felt confident that the day was off to a smooth start. So, I decided to do what every person does before regretting it later; I took a thirty minute nap. I slept great and woke up feeling completely recharged. The only problem was that when I finally checked my phone I realized that it was 2:00 p.m. I couldn’t tell you the last time I slept in that late.
“Thong Song” by Sisqo is blasting throughout my home while I’m getting ready to go to the nail salon. I’ve been to this particular nail salon quite a few times and I never have to wait longer than five minutes. I arrive to the nail salon on Friday afternoon and it is packed. I had to drive around twice just to find somewhere to park.
I finally make it to the front desk and a gentleman politely tells me there will be a thirty minute wait. I probably would’ve been more stressed about this if it wasn’t for the fact he offered me a margarita directly after. Who am I to decline a mid day margarita?
Outfit Options for the Concert
Gabrielle Ribbed Mini Dress – Turquoise
Ajay Maxi Dress – Pink
Having Fun Pant Set – Lime
I decided to order the green outfit with the hope that it would be comfortable and not sheer. I started outfit planning a bit late (the week of) so I paid extra for one day shipping. I noticed the next day when I got the shipping confirmation email that I somehow ordered an extra small instead of the medium I needed.
At this point in the week it is too late for me to start looking for an alternative outfit. So, against my better judgement I ordered the same exact outfit again but in the correct size. I wanted to be make sure it came on time so I paid for one day shipping for the second time in 24 hours. The only saving grace keeping me sane by this point is the thought of seeing Sisqo do a flip during the concert. Why? Because I enjoy seeing people have fun, sue me.
I am about 5’6 and I currently weigh 143 lbs. I ordered the outfit in a size medium and I probably could’ve sized down. The top fit almost too perfectly. If I were to raise my arms up too quickly the bottom of the stretchable shirt (I use the word ‘shirt’ loosely’) would begin to rise.
The pants were comfortable and breathable. They were not sheer and had an inner liner about the length of shorts. The pants were very long even with wearing heels. The pants started tied above my belly button and only barely touching the earth. By the end of the night you could practically see my whale tail because the pants would not stay on my waist. The bottom of the flared out pants drug on the ground all night but I was having too much fun to care.
I would also like to mention my makeup lasted throughout the entire humid night.
At the Concert
Spoiler Alert: I missed the first half of the concert due to traffic. The concert itself was so much fun and every performance was more than entertaining. However, I do not see myself attending another event at this particular venue.
Traffic just to get into the parking garage completely held up traffic for a few blocks. It was so bad that there were cars in the middle of the intersection even after the light turned back to red. They seemed to be managing traffic so slowly that cars would be waiting at a red light for multiple lights. I sat in traffic just to park my car for over forty five minutes.
When I finally get to the opening of the parking garage I see signs on the ground that say “Cash Only.” I’m honestly shocked there’s still places that are cash only in 2023. I never carry cash so I had to park my car and head into the venue to use their ATM. Parking was only $10 which isn’t bad but I’ll never understand how we got the point of paying a company just for our cars to sit.
Now that I have paid for my parking in cash, I make my way towards the concert. Since the concert was sold out and we arrived late, we parked on the sixth floor. I may have parked on the wrong side but I didn’t see any elevators close to where I parked. So I had to walk six cement floors in heels and oversized pants while it is 83 degrees fahrenheit. By the time I made it to my seat I could hear the ending of Case’s performance.
After Dru Hill performed I was able to go backstage to meet everyone. Everyone was very friendly and someone suggested I should visit Lotus Seafood so I’ll be adding that to my list of places to visit in Texas. If you’ve been before let me know in the comments what you like to order at Lotus Seafood.
