Let’s Talk About Netflix’s New Series: Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

May 10, 2023 Leave a Comment

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is the latest series from the creative minds at Shondaland Productions. The six episode series based on the novel “Queen Charlotte” by Shonda Rhimes and Julia Quinn was too good to just watch once. It hasn’t even been out a week and I’ve already watched each episode twice. Today I am sharing some of my favorite moments and quotes from Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.

My Favorite Moments and Quotes of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

Episode 1 “Queen to Be”

Beauty is Pain

Am I the only person that immediately Googled “whale bone corsets” once Charlotte started describing her gown in detail? They still exist and I’m sorry to confirm they do look beautiful.

“Oh, how joyful it is to be a lady” - Queen Charlotte

Long Live the King

“Have you no sense? It is treasonous to interior my beauty sleep. You’re lucky my face is a rare jewel. If I could still have people beheaded, you would be in the queue.” Mind you, Queen Charlotte said this just barely ten minutes into the first episode. I’ve grown to love her the more I see her.

Sorrow, Sorrows. Prayers.

Something so simple shouldn’t be so funny but the writers deserve their acknowledgment for this. I’ll be adding “Sorrows, sorrows. Prayers.” to my vocabulary right next to “That’s hot.”

Did She Just Lick Her Face?

My eyes got so wide when I watched the king’s mother attempt to wipe the brown away from Charlotte’s face.

Now Why am I Blushing?

The powers that be over at Shondaland sure are good at building the chemistry between the characters. As soon I realized who the king was I felt butterflies as if I was standing there in the garden instead.

When Queen Charlotte said she wanted to know everything about King George, I felt that.

Side-note: Bridgerton is doing adult fairytales the right way, the best way. The witty writing, the fitting music, the beautiful costumes and so much more makes watching Bridgerton feel like I’m watching a 4K vlog experience instead of another cheesy romantic comedy involving a Prince. (‘The Knight Before Christmas,’ I’m looking at you, I’m sorry.)

Episode 2 “Honeymoon Bliss”

New Ship Alert

I’m now rooting for Brimsley and Reynolds. I’m glad they at least get a few fleeting (but steamy) moments together when they’re not babysitting the royals.

You Prefer the Sky to Me

Drinking Game Idea: Take a shot every time King George says the word “Observatory” while gaslighting Queen Charlotte.

The way Queen Charlotte said “I want to fight with you. Fight with me. Fight for me.” it reminded me of that scene from ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’

A Deformed Bunny

Photo: Netflix

Who would’ve thought a deformed bunny would open the door to King George and Queen Charlotte finally living together?

It’s early in the year but I’m hoping hair, makeup and costume designs get some love next award season. These looks in every scene are mind blowing!

Episode 3 “Even Days”

The First Ball of the Season

Photo: Netflix

I’m glad we finally got the backstory on how Queen’s Charlotte’s ball begun. The more I learn the more I’m tempted to rewatch Bridgerton all over again.

Queen Charlotte Loves Christmas

Brimsley: “What a wonderful tradition with which you have blessed all of England, Your Majesty.”

Queen Charlotte: “That is obvious, Brimsley. Everything I do is a blessing.”

I know that’s right queen. I love watching how their relationship started and has progressed over the years.

If I Ain’t Got You

How can one not be “a simpering girl” while watching Queen Charlotte and King George share the first dance of the evening at Lady Danberry’s ball. I love the inclusion of classical renditions of modern love songs on every episode.

Venus is Indoors

The end of episode three of “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” shows Queen Charlotte soothing her husband as he screams to the heavens (without his clothes) for Venus. We know what their future looks like, but how did they get there? I can’t wait to find out in the upcoming episodes.

Episode 4 “Holding the King”

King George’s Wedding Day

You overhear that your bride is on the run. Then you get slapped by your deranged doctor. Will this man ever know a day of peace?

The Terrific Method

Well that took an expected turn. That doctor has been holding in his disdain towards the king for awhile and it shows.

The doctor was having him tied down when he got in his face and yelled “If you cannot govern yourself, you’re not fit to govern others. Until then, I shall govern you. Do you understand me, boy? I don’t give a damn who your father was, how many titles you have, or whether you are God’s own representative on Earth. In here, you are just another animal in a cage. And just like an animal, I will break you!”

A Gesture

I love the deformed bunny a little more now that I know the backstory on how the puppy was acquired. Nothing like stealing your evil doctor’s dog to lift your spirits.

Episode 5 “Gardens in Bloom”

Lady Agatha Danbury

Arsema Thomas as Young Agatha Danbury, Peyvand Sadeghian as Coral

When speaking to Coral, Lady Danbury said “I am brand-new. And I do not even know how to breathe air he does not exhale.” I hope we eventually get a deeper look into her background.

Queen Charlotte

“Loneliness is a battle even queens must fight for themselves.” - Lady Whistledown

The Wedding Portrait

The scene where the painter is instructed to paint Queen Charlotte’s skin lighter made me physically uncomfortable. I can’t even imagine how often that probably actually happened during history.

Untie The King

It’s a miracle that Queen Charlotte didn’t walk into that room and order for everyone to be beheaded. They shouldn’t been a lot more grateful if you ask me.

Episode 6 “Crown Jewels”

Plot Twist

I did not expect Charlotte to become a great queen but a not so great mother. I doubt Shondaland will take a deeper look at her relationship with each of her children since there’s so many of them. However, if that were to happen I’d be tuning in.

Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz

I’m partially sad that Lady Danbury didn’t marry Queen Charlotte’s older brother but I also understand why she wouldn’t want to marry ever again. I can’t help but wonder who would play the older version of Adolphus in future episodes if he were to make another appearance. Who do you think would do the role justice?

I Will Always Love You

Photo: Netflix

If I wasn’t already crying by the last episode of ‘Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’ the dancing scene with Brimsley and Reynolds would’ve pushed me over the edge. The camera cuts to young Brimsley and Reyonds dancing behind a tree as the Bridgerton version of “I Will Always Love You” plays in the background until you see an older Brimsley dancing alone.

Tweets About Queen Charlotte

“She is very brown”
I did say she had Moor blood, ma’am
“You did not say she would be *that* brown.”
But I did say she had Moor blood.

I didn’t think it was possible but FINALLY a show has done flashbacks correctly. In a way that makes it easy to tell what time period we’re in. Makes it easy to tell who is who in the past and present. Just yes. Thank you #Bridgerton #QueenCharlotte

“- I wish it did, that they might get ideas to marry and start fornicating. Perhaps, then, I might have legitimate grandbabies. Instead virgins to the left of me whores to the right.”
