‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ Movie Review

‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ is an action packed movie with magical scenes that will blow your mind. My head tilted in brief confusion throughout the entire movie, starting from the moment Waymond Wang opens the donut covered umbrella in the elevator.

If you have not had the chance to watch ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ yet I’d suggest you to save this article for later. There will be spoilers in this post so here is your official warning.

It only took a year but I’ve finally been able to watch ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ in theaters. I purposely avoided every synopsis about the film I came across to the best of my ability. I never even watched the full trailer for this movie. But just based on the flood of positive reviews I did stumble across, I decided this was a movie I wanted to go in blind on.

This could very well just be a personal preference, but if I find a film extremely intriguing, I don’t want to watch the trailer. I actually enjoy the small peak of anxiety I get as I watch the story grow on screen with no idea what will happen next. It makes me feel closer to the characters and somehow more invested in the plot.

I watched this movie last night and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. There are certain movies that you only want to watch once. ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ is not one of those films. Here are my favorite moments in ‘‘Everything Everywhere All at Once.’

My Favorite Moments in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’

1. Evelyn’s Life Flashing Before Her Eyes

“I’m Sorry. It’s a girl.” being the first thing the doctor says to Evelyn’s father made me laugh uncomfortably. This fast paced view of Evelyn’s life is the first moment while watching this movie you’ll be reminded that this is the creative work of A24.

2. The Pink Lip Balm

Have you hated a scene so much you begin to like it? That’s how I felt the second time I watched Waymond eat the pink lip balm. It’s gross but you can’t look away. This scene alone should’ve got Ke Huy Quan an Oscar. Can you believe he did his own stunts for the fanny pack fight scene? The fanny pack going around his neck then between his legs left me speechless.

3. Kung-Fu Master Evelyn

The introduction of Kung-Fu master Evelyn made me so excited. It felt like watching scenes from Michelle’s Yeoh’s actual life. I need Netflix to create a documentary about her life already. Also, let’s have a moment of silence for the beautiful dress she was wearing when she saw tuxedo Waymond.

4. Joy

It brings me joy that somebody somewhere suggested the movie villain be introduced while wearing an Elvis costume, walking a pig and smoking a cigarette in Euphoria style makeup. I’ve watched a lot of villain introductions but this is one I will not be forgetting any time soon.

5. I Will Never Look at a Hotdog the Same Way Again

Photo: A24

A24 must have a clause that says they have to include at least five cringe worthy moments in all of their films. I screamed internally when they showed the romantic movie actors with mustard coming out of their floppy phalanges.

6. Jobu Tabaki

4+4 is what? ATE. From the makeup to the outfits, every costume change for Jobu Tabaki ate. I can’t even pick a favorite because they are all so different. However, did anyone else think Jobu looked kind of like Ryuk in her black outfit before Evelyn’s movie credits rolled?

7. Raccacoonie

I’m not even going to pretend to understand how a raccoon chef fit into the plot at all. But I’m really glad this was included. I actually felt slightly heartbroken when the little chef trash panda got caught by animal control.

8. Being a Rock

You know when rappers “waste” lines in their songs or simply laugh instead of rapping? That’s how I felt about the rock scene. It’s out of pocket but somehow made the movie even that much cooler. Sometimes simple works.

9. Tuxedo Waymond

This may be my favorite moment of the entire movie. The monologue given by this variant of Waymond is an important reminder that perspective can make a big difference.

“When I choose to see the good side of things, I’m not being naive. It is strategic and necessary. It’s how I’ve learned to survive through everything.I know you see yourself as a fighter. Well, I see myself as one too. This is how I fight. So, even though you have broken my heart yet again, I wanted to say… In another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you.” - Waymond in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Someone grab a Kleenex because I am crying! Alexa, please play “Foldin Clothes” by J.Cole.

10. There’s Strength in Kindness

The ‘real’ ending to ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ wraps the story up with a lesson as old as time. Plus, it’s never a bad day for a good cry.
