In 2018 I launched my first course It Pays To Be Social which focused on helping creators learn about influencer marketing. In 2020 I have realized Instagram is forever changing and updating; so it’s nearly impossible to keep up with all the changes. I deactivated my course and decided to publish the content as updated blog articles instead. I still offer the influencer network list for purchase by itself. In this article you will find the answers to the most common questions I receive about Instagram.

Q: I’ve been told using Instagram stories can help engagement and reach, but I never know what to post. How do you suggest using Instagram stories.
An easy way to humanize your brand is by using Instagram Stories. Here’s a few suggestions for content creators and small business owners.
- Mix your personal photography with the images you’ve created using Canva
- I Post my Outfit/Makeup of the day on my Instagram story. I follow up with a break down of what brands I’m wearing throughout my story. This is also a good place to mention any relevant discount codes you have for your audience.
- Show behind the scenes of your business, you creating your youtube video or new blog posts, etc
- Create 10 second stories using programs like iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Adobe or of course Canva
- Use Instagram templates such as polls or questions to invite engagement from your followers. Most people like to engage in those options on Instagram to share their opinions on various topics.
- Share quick tips from your recent blog posts, tweets, or even Youtube channel
- Do a story swap with someone in your niche. Takeover their Instagram story for the day.
- Turn on location on your stories to reach more people in your area.
- You can use up to 10 hashtags on your story. This is a quick and easy way to increase your reach for free.
- Use your story to post previews of your upcoming post. A lot of creators do this with an Instagram sticker on the actual post.
Q: How can I get more followers interested in my content? I usually on get comments from spam pages.
I’ve made a point to follow other bloggers and content creators in my niche. It makes it easier to engage with your timeline when you only follow pages of content you actually enjoy. I recommend having post notifications on so you can engage with your follower’s posts as soon as it’s posted.
This may seem obvious but actually being social on social media pays off. (It literally pays to be social) In my experience the more you engage with your audience and their posts the more likely it is they will return the favor. Engaging on Instagram with relatable profiles has lead to sfs, giveaway offers, and even online friends in various countries.
Another perk of following only pages you’re interested in is that makes it a lot easier to leave real and thoughtful comments. No one wants those spammy comments on their page full of emojis or generic messages. You should try to engage with your followers and under hashtags in your niche for at least 30 minutes a day. This can gain you new followers and increase your profile’s engagement. I’ve seen creators spend even four hours a day just on engagement because it’s that important.
Q: When should I post on Instagram and how often?
You can’t expect to grow your page if your followers rarely see you creating new content. You should try to post at least 5 times a week. If you’re thinking how am I going to sit and post new quality images everyday well don’t fret. You can spend a free day creating content then schedule them to be posted at a later date using Tailwind or Later. I use both for different reasons.
For example, you can record a full GRWM tutorial for IGTV then take photos of the final look. Depending on your shooting style from this one video you now have multiple photos to post, an eye makeup tutorial, a brow tutorial, and even a hair tutorial perhaps.
You want to post consistently to make sure you stay on your followers feed. Always be sure to encourage your viewers to turn on your post notifications so you will increase your engagement with each post ideally. Every new post is a new chance to grow your audience.
