If you’ve been on any social media platform lately; I’m sure you’ve heard of the new Clubhouse app. Clubhouse was created in May of 2020 so it’s still very new. It is currently in beta and only available on iPhones.
The Clubhouse app is an exclusive audio only social media platform. Even if you haven’t receive a golden ticket yet (Clubhouse invite) you are still able to create a free account to reserve your username. We will discuss Clubhouse invites later in this post.
In this post you will find the answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding Clubhouse. The app developers are steadily making updates to improve the app’s user experience. I will do my best to keep this post updated as the platform continues to grow and evolve.

The Clubhouse App 101: What Is Clubhouse?
The Clubhouse app is an audio only social media platform. Unlike majority of the popular current social media platforms this app is not content based. Clubhouse is not about posting high quality photos and videos constantly. You gain a following on Clubhouse organically by providing helpful information while in a room.
When you join Clubhouse you’ll notice various rooms you can join to listen in. Once you’re inside of a room you have the option to ping people you follow to join the room as well by clicking the “+” icon.
If the feature is enabled you can click the hand icon at the bottom right of the screen to raise your hand. When you raise your hand a moderator of the room has access to give you permission to join the stage to speak. You’ll notice in some larger rooms this feature is disabled. Out of courtesy for others you should always mute your microphone once you are brought to the stage to speak. You do this to avoid any background noise on your part until you’re ready or invited to speak.
Keep in mind Clubhouse is full of celebrities and you may be tempted to record a room. At this time it is against their guidelines to record any rooms so it’s important to have your notifications on for all your favorite users on the app. You can set a notification to be alerted when someone speaks on the app by visiting the bell icon on their profile.
The Clubhouse App 101: How Can I Get an Invite?
Clubhouse has announced they are working to get the app released to the public as quickly as possible. Until then, each new member has one invite to share with someone in their phone’s contact list.
You have the opportunity to gain new invites the more you engage on the app. After my first time speaking in a room I was “gifted” three Clubhouse invites. I’ve spoken to other bloggers on the app who have spoken daily and have not received any further invites yet. Since the app is still in beta constant changes are being made and they haven’t released a verified way to gain new invites yet.
My advice to anyone waiting for an invite would be pitching yourself on Twitter and even in business Facebook groups. I’ve seen a lot of people already have success with joining the app this way. I’m not sure if it’s allowed, but there are plenty of users offering their invites at a price too.
Be cautious who you invite to the app because their profile will forever be linked to yours. This essentially means if the person you invite breaks guidelines of the app; both of your profiles could be permanently removed.
The Clubhouse App 101: How Do Followers Work on Clubhouse?
Let me start by saying I personally have not seen any official updates from Clubhouse regarding followers. In my own experience on the app over these past few weeks I have noticed a few things worth mentioning.
It is fair to assume the users you follow determine what rooms you see in your hallway on Clubhouse. This could be the reason why you can’t find certain rooms to join that your colleagues may be in without getting pinged.
Clubhouse, once again in my opinion, is not about how many followers you have. Your follower to following ratio should be irrelevant to you. The most important factor is following accounts that discuss topics you are actually interested in.
I’ve gained the most followers when I’m speaking in a room. I’ve discussed various topics on Clubhouse since joining on December 1st already. I’ve discussed marketing tips and beauty product suggestions. As long the information you are giving is helpful to the listeners users will be more inclined to follow you.
I hope you’ve found this post helpful while you navigate on the Clubhouse app. You can follow me @Kinnidi on the app; I hope to see you in a room soon. If you have any more questions leave me a comment below. Share this post if you found it helpful.
